Drag racing is the ultimate test of musclecar horsepower and the Las Vegas Motor Speedway has one of the best drag strip facilities in the country. Luckily, Mopars And Musclecars At The Strip offered up plenty of opportunities for drag racers to get their fix during the two-day event, September 10-11. Racers started checking in on Thursday evening to get their pit set up for Friday afternoon.
The drag racing action was presented by ARP with Modern Musclecar Happy Hour kicking off at 5:00 pm. Shortly thereafter, test sessions opened for all racers to prepare for the Battle of the Brands competition and the Randy Clickner Memorial Shoot Out taking place later on in the evening. Battle of the Brands is exactly as it sounds: Mopar vs. Ford vs. Chevy! The brackets were set up so each brand competed against their own until there was one left standing. That winner then went up against the other brand winners to determine an overall winner.
Whether you like dragsters, old-school gassers, old-school musclecars, modern muscle, small tire, or big tire, there was a little bit of everything on display on the strip. Even Street Outlaw’s Joe “Dominator” Woods made a few passes with his Dodge Dart. There was some excellent racing action throughout the night.
With a photographer already assigned to the drag strip, my focus at MATSLV was on the other parts of the event. However, I couldn’t pass up an opportunity to grab some photos with my new Nikon Z7II camera. Though I still need a little more practice to dial it in, I’m pretty happy with the clarity of this camera in low-light conditions.
Enjoy the photos, and remember HIGH-RESOLUTION prints can be purchased on the Shop page. Just make sure to click on the photo to maximize it and copy down the title name before you go there.
(Note: There are two groups of photos below (Friday/Saturday) and the photos may take a few minutes to load. Be patient, all good things come to those who wait!)
I didn’t see any photos of a White Cadillac CTS V Coupe. Do you have any more photos of this event?
Was it racing? Those are all the photos I have, but I wasn’t the photographer actually covering the drag strip. I was mostly at the car show and autocross. I’ll look through again to make sure but I don’t remember seeing one while I was there.
